CARABELLA ST PROJECT

KIRRIBILLI

Structural / Remedial

Some defects in the building indicated the need of a structural engineer’s involvement and retrospective design check. TBES employs reverse engineering and advanced modelling to identify deficiencies, notably missing column shear caps. Our solution includes retrofitting shear caps and initiating structural crack repairs to ensure stability and integrity.

THE PROBLEM

The identification of structural cracking in a primary load-bearing slab at the ground level is a critical concern, especially considering that this specific slab bears the weight of seven levels above, indicating a potential threat to the structural integrity of the entire building.

THE APPROACH

In response to the identified structural cracking, TBES undertook a comprehensive approach. Through reverse engineering, the construction of the slab was meticulously analysed. The building was then digitally modeled using advanced structural engineering software. The analysis unveiled a concerning deficiency in shear reinforcement provisions, with critical shear caps notably missing. This detailed examination provided crucial insights into the root cause of the structural issue.

THE SOLUTION

In addressing the structural challenges, TBES formulated a robust solution. A detailed engineering design was meticulously prepared, outlining the retrofitting of shear caps to reinforce the slab. Concurrently, plans for structural crack repairs were initiated to ensure the restoration of the slab's integrity and overall structural stability.
